he summer program at Crow Hollow Farm gives children freedom and time to explore and interact with horses, while teaching them how to ride and/or become better riders. Students are allowed the opportunity to develop a comfort and confidence that comes from their own time spent with the horses, maybe in the barn, or grazing a pony in the field, or taking turns riding bareback with friends. The "free time" with the horses (and a nearby instructor) as well as the more structured lesson time makes for balanced, confident riders who can do all this and have fun!
Everyday children receive a riding lesson, as well as a lesson in the barn on some aspect of horsemanship, for example; grooming and tacking up, first-aid for horses, general stable management, etc. The students also participate in some of the daily horse care at the farm. This gives them a feel of the fun but also the responsibility involved in having a horse of their own. Arts and crafts, group story projects, games on horseback, and activities like mock horse shows round out the remaining time. The summer program is designed to run in two week blocks with closing ceremonies on the second Friday of each session. Children are encouraged to enroll for two weeks, but if they are unable, it is still possible to take part in just a portion of the program.
Crow Hollow Farm is an excellent place for kids to learn all about horses, make friends and have fun. |
